Family Sponsorship

Spousal Sponsorship

If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada you can sponsor your spouse.  There are many requirements that sponsors need to meet, to become eligible to sponsor.

For spousal sponsorships the most important factors to consider are meeting the requirements to sponsor and establishing that the marriage relationship is genuine.

Immigration Canada values family reunification and facilitates the sponsorship of immediate family members under the Family Class Sponsorship Application

The spousal/common law partner sponsorship and dependent child sponsorship are given priority processing.

There are two stages of the Sponsorship application process.

The application to sponsor step A

And

The application for permanent residency step B

The sponsor will be screened for eligibility to sponsor first. Once the sponsor has been given approval, the principal applicant (person being sponsored) and accompanying family members will be able to apply for permanent residency. At this point they will be screened for admissibility.

A decision will be given, if positive the permanent residency visa will be issued.

****It’s important to note that the application is different for applicants whose spouse resides with them in Canada. This is the Spouse or Common Law Partner in Canada Class  application.

The fee for spousal sponsorship is $1080.

Child Sponsorship

If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada you can sponsor your dependent children.

A Dependent child is a child that is:

  • Under 22 years old
  • Unmarried

A child 22 and above that is physically/mentally disabled is still considered a dependent child. Immigration Canada requires proof that the sponsoring parent is the biological parent. Usually the birth certificate will suffice.

The fee for sponsoring a dependent child is $150.

Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship

To sponsor parents/grandparents for Permanent residency the process is by invitation only. Applicants are selected randomly and must first submit an interest to sponsor form. Under the parent/grandparent sponsorship program, approximately 15,000 permanent visas are issued every year.

This pathway is currently closed for new applications. However, the Super Visa option is open and available to anyone interested in bringing their parents or grandparents to live with them in Canada. The super visa is a type of temporary resident visa, it is granted for a period of up to 5 years and can be extended by 2 years at at time.

The fee for Super visa is $100
