Permanent Residency

Skilled Workers

For skilled workers interested in settling in Canada permanently, the Express Entry pathway facilitates this.

This pathway to permanent residency is the most common pathway,  approximately 80% of applicants who apply for permanent residency use the express entry program. 

There are 4 categories you can apply under :

  • As a trades worker under the Federal Skilled Trades Class 
  • As a skilled worker under the Federal Skilled Worker Class
  • As a skilled worker with Canadian experience under the Canadian Experience Class
  • As a Provincial Nominee Candidate 

The Express Entry pathway uses comprehensive ranking system that ranks hundreds and thousands of applicants using a score system. Only Applicants who manage to rank competitively in the pool of applicants are invited to apply for permanent residency. 

Scores are awarded based on the following factors:

  1. Education and credentials 
  2. Work experience
  3. Age
  4. Langauge proficiency 
  5. Job offer
  6. Adaptability (Previous education in Canada, Previous work experience in Canada, Relatives in Canada etc.)

This program was introduced to address Canada’s economic immigration needs. Therefore, its main objective is to select the best foreign skilled workers to immigrate to Canada. 

The fee for express entry application is $850.

 

Provincial Nomination

Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories, each province has different labour and skill worker needs. The Provincial Nomination Program was created to address the different immigration needs of each province.

With the Provincial Nominee Program applicants can now apply to immigrate to the province of their choice. If they meet the immigration criteria, the province can nominate them for immigration.

Once nominated, the applicant will be issued a nomination certificate which they can use to apply for permanent residence.

Business Immigration

Start up Visa

The Start Up Visa is a pathway for foreign entrepreneurs to start a business in Canada that creates jobs.  Entrepreneurs around the globe can immigrate to Canada and acquire permanent residency. 

This pathway requires applicants to invest a large amount of capital and to create an innovative business startup that can compete on a global scale. For the Start up Visa program the bar is set quite high, entrepreneurs need the following to be considered eligible:

  1. A Qualifying business 
  2. A letter of support from designated organization (angel investor, venture capital fund, business incubator group) 
  3. Enough funds to resettle 
  4. Meet minimum language requirements  

The fee is $2410 for the start up visa program.

Self Employed

There is a pathway for permanent residency for foreign nationals that are self employed. However, the criteria is quite specific. Immigration Canada is seeking self employed foreigners that can contribute to the Canadian economy in cultural activities or athletics and posses the relevant experience to do so.

Self Employed foreign nationals need to meet the following requirements to be considered eligible:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to become self employed in Canada
  2. Two years of self employed work experience in cultural activities or athletics within last 5 years
  3. Score a minimum of 35/100 in selection criteria based on a number of factors (age, work experience, education, language proficiency etc) 

The fee is $2410 for the Self Employed Persons Program
